If you have read even a little of the press over coconut oil the pat few years, you've probably heard how it can do everything including get you a good credit score and wash your car for you. Well guess what.....It's true! OK, not the car bit but it's still pretty impressive stuff.
Coconut oil is anti fungal, antibacterial and antiviral. It boosts the metabolism, helping the body burn off excess fat. Although it can be used externally on skin and hair, for best results, add it to your diet. The oil when ingested and broken down by the body, becomes a much more powerful agent.
I read about bulletproof coffee (coffee with 1 tablespoon of a high quality organic fat added to it) and decided to give it a try since it was supposed to help with energy and concentration levels. I used coconut oil and even though it was only supposed to be drunk once a day, it tasted so good (added to tea), that I had several cups a day.
The first thing I noticed, after about 3 days, was my teeth which had been aching for about 2 weeks, stopped hurting. After a week I could see I had lost weight. I didn't have scales to weigh exactly, but it looked like about 7 pounds. Yes that's right; by adding an extra 5-6 tablespoons of c oil per day to my diet....I lost weight! My hair started growing again and became thicker and stronger. My weak nails became strong, my skin looked better. It was almost like the oil was some kind of blank slate travelling round the body and filling in wherever it was needed.
C oil helps the body absorb magnesium and calcium which is probably why my teeth stopped hurting. It is a medium chain fatty acid which is used by the body straight away instead of being stored, helping to keep weight down. At the time I lost weight taking it, I was leading a very sedentary life so I believe it burned off my excess weight, rather than me losing it myself due to physical activity. Although the scientists will tell you it can't do this; I know what it did for me. And unlike them I have no agenda or reason to lie. Before I added it to my diet, I used to rub c oil on my hair and skin before bathing and it was good enough. But it never made my hair grow or become strong; it never made my nails which were always bending backwards, strong.
But it is not as simple as just going out and buying c oil, then expecting it to change your health. The oil must be virgin; not refined, not deodorized, cold pressed if possible. Then there is the issue of slave monkeys.
These monkeys are chained, held captive, and often brutalized to force them to constantly pick coconuts. There are lists of companies online that do not use slave monkeys but I want to email them and check their current stance. In the meantime i urge you to stick to companies that are ethical/ vegetarian/ vegan/ fairtrade. These would include (UK):
Co-Op supermarket
Superdrug
Biona
US
Trader Joes
Also, email companies yourself; the more emails they receive, the sooner they will change. And lastly, avoid coconut products from Thailand. Despite any company assurance, people involved in the coconut trade in Thailand say 99 out of 100 coconuts ARE picked by slave monkeys
